General Questions

How much do Airlite Snowshoes weigh?

Each snowshoe weighs approximately 1.5 pounds when deflated, making them one of the lightest emergency snowshoes available. A pair fits easily in a daypack without adding significant weight to your gear.

What size boots do they fit?

Airlite Snowshoes are designed to accommodate a wide range of boot sizes through the adjustable binding system. They work with standard winter boots, snowmachine boots, and hiking boots.

How long does it take to inflate?

From packed to fully inflated and ready to use takes under 2 minutes. Initial mouth inflation takes about 30-45 seconds per shoe, followed by a quick shot of CO2 or a few pump strokes to reach operating pressure.

Inflation & Pressure

What PSI should I inflate to?

Inflate to between 8.5 and 10.5 PSI. The toe area should feel firm before use. A pressure gauge is included with every pair to ensure proper inflation. Using the snowshoes without full inflation is not recommended.

What inflation devices work?

The standard tire valve is compatible with most small hand pumps, CO2 cartridge inflators, and portable air compressors. We recommend the Red Zeppelin CO2 inflator by Planet Bike or any compact bicycle pump.

Can I inflate them entirely by mouth?

You can get the initial shape by mouth, but reaching proper operating pressure (8.5-10.5 PSI) requires a pump or CO2 device. The two-stage inflation process is by design — mouth gets you 80% there, the pump finishes the job.

Durability & Repair

Are they puncture resistant?

Yes. Airlite Snowshoes are made from extremely tough, puncture-resistant material that has been tested in the harshest Alaskan winter conditions. Puncture resistance testing shows no holes and no leaks under extreme stress.

Can I repair them in the field?

Yes. Patch kits are available and the repair process is similar to patching a bicycle inner tube. The patches bond strongly with the snowshoe material and can be applied in field conditions.

How long do they last?

With proper care and storage, Airlite Snowshoes will last for many years. Store them deflated in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Inspect before each use and keep valves clean.

Usage & Performance

Do they work on all types of snow?

The traction pad works well in most snow conditions. For icy or hard-packed snow, optional crampons (included in the Complete Package) provide additional grip and stability.

Who are they designed for?

Originally designed for snowmachiners, Airlite Snowshoes are now used by bush pilots, dog mushers, mountain rescue teams, State Troopers, Fish and Game officers, National Guard Air Rescue pilots, hunters, skiers, and anyone who ventures into deep snow country.

Can I use them for recreational snowshoeing?

While primarily designed as emergency snowshoes, many customers use them for light recreational snowshoeing. They're especially popular for their ultra-portable design — perfect for keeping in the car or pack "just in case."
